Some of my first teachers had four legs, and they helped shape not only the way I care for animals, but the way I experience life itself.
Animals have been part of my story for as long as I can remember. Long before I understood wellness, they were teaching me how to slow down, observe, trust, and appreciate the quiet wisdom found in nature. From the puppies that surrounded my childhood, to Checkers riding in my backpack on our walks, to the beloved cat who shared nineteen years of my life, every animal has shaped the person I am today.
They were never just companions; they were teachers, friends, and family.
I was fortunate to grow up with parents who encouraged curiosity and careful observation. My father taught me to read the stories written in the earth beneath our feet—to follow animal tracks, notice the smallest details, and understand that the natural world is always communicating. He showed me that footprints are more than marks in the soil; they tell stories about movement, behavior, and life.
My mother, an artist and music educator, taught me to see beauty in color, rhythm, texture, and the quiet details that often go unnoticed. Through her example, I learned that creativity isn't just something we make—it’s something we discover when we truly pay attention.
Together, those lessons shaped the way I experience the world. They nurtured a lifelong fascination with the colors, sounds, and textures of nature—from the softness of a puppy's fur to the songs of birds and the quiet companionship of a cat. That sense of wonder continues to shape my art, my relationships, and the way I move through the world.
As an artist, I've learned that creativity is all around us—we simply need the eyes to notice it and the tools to bring it to life. Animals taught me that every interaction has something to teach us. Every companion has their own personality, needs, and way of communicating if we're willing to slow down, observe, and truly listen.
The animals I loved were family, and I wanted them to live long, healthy, happy lives. My beloved cat came into my life as a tiny two-day-old kitten and remained by my side for nineteen years. That relationship only deepened my desire to understand how I could care for the animals I loved in thoughtful, informed ways.
A Journey Toward Thoughtful Animal Wellness
Along the way, I came to understand that wellness isn't something we create for ourselves alone—it is something we share with the animals who walk beside us.
Because my animals have always been family, I wanted to learn more about supporting their health and well-being in thoughtful, responsible ways. That curiosity led me to explore animal wellness and continue my education through the Animal Aromatherapy Specialist program with Essential Oil Vet and veterinarian Dr. Janet Roark.
I was drawn to Dr. Roark's approach because it reflects the values I believe are essential when caring for animals: education first, careful observation, responsible use, and always putting the animal's well-being at the center.
This page is a collection of resources that have been meaningful throughout my own learning journey. My hope is that they inspire curiosity, encourage connection, and help you nurture the special bond you share with the animals in your life.
Because our animals are more than companions.
They're family.
They're teachers.
They're part of the beautiful art of living life paw-fully🐾!
